FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I get an Access Violation or Runtime error when I try to start the program on my work pc/laptop?
Answer
The problem arises because your work pc/laptop has restricted user privileges to prevent you running programs that your company does not approve of. The solution is to get your IT department to give you local administrator rights on your work pc/laptop so that you can run what you want. They probably won't do that, and, you might not want to let them know what you are doing anyway so your stuck. Alternatively use your own pc/laptop.

Why does my password not work
Answer
1 Possibly because the caps lock is on.
2 Your laptop keys are not the same as your normal pc keyboard.

When I use Word to open the results text file the text goes onto the next line, why?
Answer
This is because word expects the line of text to be shorter than the current margin settings. Change the top, bottom, left and right margins to 1cm.

Athlete(s) names don't fit in the box what do I do?
Answer
The question here is just how big should the name stored and printed should be? A decision was made based on the following observation. When you see a start list names on a TV screen some names are shortened to fit on the screen. Ironically some short names are abbreviated because they contain wide characters such as W,M, while long names with short characters such as i, l, aren't.

It is acknowledged that as people remarry and family names become hyphenated that the family name may prevent the full athlete name being recorded. See documentation 6.1.12 for how to deal with this. The uniqueness of the name used is nearly always enough to identify the actual athlete.

Why are non grey colours used on this site and in the programs?
Answer
Different colours are used to help remember which program is currently being used. For example, where a venue has the same mens and womens clubs which have the same team numbers for a given club but compete in separate scoring matches, if both mens and womens programs had the same colour appearance, it would/is very easy in the midday heat of the meeting to put a mens result in the womens match and have the program(s) accept the results. Having different colours rather than multiple grey screens assists in quickly identifying which match is being displayed or required.
